Hey Zaman H, As wonderful this modem/router is going for me so far, the one thing I wish it had would be built in torrent download software. For those interested in the hardware platform the 2890 uses, best I can tell from poking around the firmware via shell is that it uses Broadcom's Northstar platform for the routing and wifi like other 2012 derived AC Platforms This comprises of Broadcom's 4708 MCU and BCM4360 AC Wi Fi. I will be for before concluding our review process.I have no idea what the ADSL2 solution is in as I can't find where the drivers are located in the firmware.Regards The DSL-2890AL is a new unit and thus there is very little feedback on it. I have a desktop PC 20 metres away connected to 1 ethernet port and I have a TP-Link 8 port switch on a 2nd ethernet port.It is extremely unlikely this unit would be better than ASUS' offerings. Running off the switch are 4 devices – my HTPC (intel NUC), my Panasonic Led and 2 dual network tuners (hdhomeunr/kaiser baas).MY current modem I have had for over 10 years DSL 504. I want to hook up mobiles (2), PS3, and blu-ray hhd recorder, and 2 pc's up to the modem. (if I have the modem set up at one end of the house)? I have no dead spots in my house and can use it down the street as well.
usb 2.0 is fast enough for streaming from and also fast enough to record to. I would rather it have 1 usb 2.0 (instead of 1 usb2.0 and 1 usb3.0), but have torrent download software built in. It is what it is – Perfect for me and I would say many others.
I'm assuming from the firmware seems this product is a hybrid , with the modem tacked onto the router platform rather than a dedicated gateway platform as with Broadcom 63xx series in many gateways popular here on Whirlpool.
Couple of important things to note: To me this is unacceptable for a 0 Broadcom unit when D-Link's cheaper/older units have it fully supported. This modem is supposed to have ALL the boxes ticked except VOIP/3G features (which are hidden in the firmware anyway) If the SPI and IPTV is fixed, I would definitely classify this as the best AC DSL Gateway on the market, and I have used and modded enough gateways to know otherwise.
I realy dont want it running 24/7 I just wonder what setting am I suposed to select to make it go into a sleep mode. Salesman was going to offer it for 0 with the D-Link DCS932L Day/Night Network Camera (Home Security) included.
Plus should get more feedback from users who've started using it.
